Young people represent about half of the population of the Mediterranean basin: they stand as the driving force for a positive change in behaviours and attitudes, and are contributing to spread a culture of non-violence and peace throughout the region.

The Red Cross and Red Crescent Mediterranean Youth Meeting will be held from the 23rd to the 25th of May 2015 in San Marino. This first edition of the meeting for Youth Leaders and Coordinators in the Mediterranean will be organised prior to the 12th Mediterranean Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, and aims at providing young representatives of the National Societies the possibility of sharing views and opinions on the humanitarian challenges of the region.

The promotion of a culture of Non-violence and Peace will be one of the main topics discussed by Youth representatives during the Meeting. “In a time in which the basic elements of a culture of peace are undermined by social instability, lack of respect for diversity and a communication gap with our inner selves and with others”* we believe that the moment has come for Youth to take position.

Knowledge sharing, exchange of best practices, open discussions, innovation and active participation are just some of the features of the Meeting, which wishes to be a platform for an open and bold discussion that will set the guidelines for a more coordinated action of Youth in the Mediterranean for the years to come.
