Mediterranean Youth Meeting

Youth leaders of the Mediterranean Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies will gather in San Marino, from the 23rd to the 25th of May, to debate on the priorities in the region.

The Youth Meeting will provide a space for debate and exchange of ideas to the young representatives of the National Societies of the Mediterranean. The participants will be able to set the agenda of this encounter and decide the workshops they will attend. There will be an Open Space Technology session that will allow youth leaders to pinpoint the main priorities of the region that they are facing. Therefore participants themselves will lead the process and outcomes of the Meeting.

Worldwide, the Red Cross and Red Crescent count on 9 million young volunteers, more than half of the total volunteers of the Movement (17 million). The importance of youth is clearly recognised by the Movement. Strategy 2020 of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies’ remarks “A special focus on young people is a crucial investment, not only for today but also for the future”. The State of World Population 2014 report declares “Young people matter […] because they are the shapers and leaders of our global future”.

Knowledge sharing, exchange of best practices, open discussions, innovation and active participation are just some of the features of the Meeting, which wishes to be a platform for an open and bold discussion that will set the guidelines for a more coordinated action of Youth in the Mediterranean for the years to come.
